Welcome to Blog 2.0

A new blog to showcase ongoing conversations.

Last month we unveiled Blog 2.0—a much-needed cosmetic overhaul of the Stanford University Press blog first launched in mid-2006. With this re-launch we’re focusing our use of this platform on bringing scholars, readers, and other curious parties extra content about our books, the authors we publish, and the Press itself.

Primarily, we see the blog as a forum for our authors to explore issues related to their research through original essays and Q&As, as well as a space to discuss the deeper context for matters of both popular and academic interest—including, for example, a piece on fútbol in Argentina dovetailing with the recent World Cup final, or a reflection on the populist values of Wikipedia. This site also provides a platform for us to announce Press news—such as introducing new series editors, or celebrating an editor’s “pubversary.”

We have hosted weeklong series dedicated to areas of our list, featuring editorial contributions from our authors, which pivot around a particular issue or topic.  We intend to continue exploring other issues using the series format, including (among others) human rights, constitutional law questions, and immigration. Later this month, we will experiment with the serialized blog format to highlight new books, the first of which will focus on the just-published, Sephardi Lives, edited by Julia Phillips Cohen and Sarah Abrevaya Stein. We are always open to new ideas for special features and welcome input from our readers, who can email us at blog@www.sup.org.

We look forward to using the blog as a space for discussion and debate of important ideas, bridging academic and “real world” conversations, and highlighting the authors and books who challenge and inform us every day at SUP. These are “Ideas that Matter, Books that Endure.”
