SUPcats

They're like LOLcats, but more dignified (sort of).

The world of academic publishing is home to many unsung heroes—copy editors, indexers, peer reviewers, sales reps (among many others)—all integral to the business of book-making. SUP, like many other university presses, runs a lean operation and as such relies on support networks that often live outside the four walls of the Press' headquarters. Today we express our gratitude for a frequently overlooked constituency of the Press—a group whose importance to our mission cannot be overstated. Today, we would like to thank our cats.

Our cats are integral to the publishing process at every stage—starting with acquisitions.

Leo

Excellent grammarians, our cats play a crucial role in the copyediting process, and add a touch of levity to the work environment.

Richie

They bring a fresh perspective to marketing endeavors.

Olive

And they're among the first to offer us critical feedback once the advance copies are in.

Clementine

Displeased Feline

Indeed, their invaluable input helps put words on the page, keeps the presses running, and the ebooks downloading, allowing us to support outstanding research from established thinkers and emerging voices alike. From all of us at Stanford Press, thank you SUPcats for all that you do, and Happy National Cat Day!

Sincerely,
